What is the Verdi Cycle?

In 1989 Victor DeRenzi programmed a series of performances of Verdi's Rigoletto for what would become the first stop in the long journey through all of Verdi's works. The completion of The Verdi Cycle made Sarasota Opera the only company in the world to have performed all of Verdi's music.

The final week of the 2016 Winter Season was a dedicated Verdi Festival week. In addition to the new productions of Aida and La battaglia di Legnano, Sarasota Opera presented two concerts of his music, an international Verdi conference, a retrospective exhibit that looks back on the 28 years of the Verdi Cycle, as well as many other special events. Sarasota Opera closed the 2016 Winter Opera Festival shouting "Viva Verdi" prouder than ever, as Verdi's American Home.
